http://www.2nm.com.au/news/local-news/74922-mysterious-gas-smell-over-the-hunter-nothing-sinister

Quote: "It appears natural causes are to blame for a strange smell that's been wafting over Newcastle in recent days. Some say the big stink smells like sewerage, others believe the odour has a sulphuric smell. Fire and Rescue NSW says it's received multiple calls from people concerned about a strong smell of gas, however no leaks have been detected. The Environmental Protection Authority has investigated, finding it's likely to be a naturally occurring gas associated with stagnant water from the recent heavy rain."

Note: Notice how they studiously avoid mentioning WHAT gas people are smelling. That's probably because it's hydrogen sulfide and they don't want the people living there to know they're being lightly poisoned...

http://www.ibtimes.co.in/meg-trailer-jason-stathams-shark-attack-movie-looks-gruesome-766250

Quote: "The sharks are back to attack the box office, or in this case, one big shark is making its way to the summer box office. Warner Bros just dropped the trailer of The Meg and assure that your trip to the beach is not going to be the same. The new movie stars Jason Statham battling a massive Megalodon who is terrorizing a research vessel at the bottom of the ocean. While the crew on board are aware that there are some dangerous underwater creatures, the team is left shocked when they come across the 75-foot-long shark considering the threatening creature is presumed to be extinct for thousands of years now."

http://www.mlive.com/news/saginaw/index.ssf/2018/04/elevated_levels_of_methane_gas.html

Quote: "The source of a peculiar odor that made some Bridgeport Township office workers sick on Friday became a little clearer on Tuesday. An environmental investigation crew from AKT Peerless discovered a small methane leak coming from underground when they dug a small test hole behind the township office building. The Bridgeport Township Governmental Center was construction on top of a former dump in the 1980s. Methane is a common byproduct from decomposing trash. No methane was detected in the building and crews couldn't confirm on Tuesday whether methane was the cause of the odor. Full test results aren't likely until the end of this week. Some workers in the facility complained of being lightheaded and nauseous on Friday after smelling an odd odor, but none were hospitalized. The building is closed until further notice."

Note: Of course crews couldn't confirm that methane was the cause of the odor - methane is odorless so it will NEVER be the cause of ANY odor. Derp. The reason they used to use canaries in coal mines is because methane leaks occur in coal mines sometimes, but since it's odorless, miners needed a way to know when they were in danger, so they'd keep some canaries around. If the canaries started falling over then it was time to skedaddle. This place was built on top of a landfill, and anaerobic digestion of biomatter in landfills creates not just methane but also hydrogen sulfide. Hydrogen sulfide DOES have an odor, and it could also certainly sicken people. The workers who got sick here were likely poisoned by hydrogen sulfide before they closed this building down, with unknown long-term effects...

http://www.smobserved.com/story/2018/04/13/news/gas-leak-in-venice-and-ocean-park-determined-to-be-natural/3413.html

Quote: "The agencies worked to find the source of the odor and later said that upon investigation, the smell was determined to be 'natural' and no gas leak was detected. LAFD officials said meters used to test for gases detected only the presence of methane, believed to be coming from the ocean."

Note: The 'gas smell' had to be hydrogen sulfide, which smells like rotten eggs, similar to the odorant added to natural gas to give it a smell. That's why people thought this was a gas leak. Obviously the smell wasn't methane, since methane is odorless, though I don't doubt there was ALSO some methane, since both methane and hydrogen sulfide are produced by anaerobic digestion in oxygen-starved areas like the bottom of the ocean, landfills, swamps, etc. Once the ocean burps up a concentrated enough cloud of hydrogen sulfide and it blows over a city like Venice, there are going to be a lot of dead people. Events like this are harbingers of what's to come, warning signs for those capable of seeing them. There are multiple cities along the coast in California that have formed committees to investigate why hydrogen sulfide keeps hitting their cities. More warning signs...

Quote: "Investment banking giant Goldman Sachs is reportedly asking some very cold questions about the healthcare industry and whether it’s a good business move to cure diseases."

Note: This is why privatized profit-driven capitalistic healthcare is nonsensical and ultimately inhumane. It's often cheaper to let people die than to treat them. And it's often more profitable to treat the symptoms of diseases than to cure them. But it's better for SOCIETY if people get treatment for ailments and it's better for society if citizens are cured of diseases when cures are available. This is why all civilized countries have nationalized healthcare, keeping the emphasis on what's best for society itself, not what's best for the bottom line of corporations. Only idiotic governments prioritize the health of corporations over the health of their citizens...

Lindsay Ford, Chairman of Rotary International on Norfolk Island, said the humanitarian organization has been notified of at least four deaths related to the volcano in recent days. Some areas have endured significant ash falls which has forced the Vanuatu government to consider permanently relocating all the residents of the island. The Vanuatu government has met with chiefs from the islands of Maemo and Pentecost to attempt to acquire land for the current residents of Ambae, according to ABC. Vanuatu's Council of Ministers hopes to have land secured by the end of May. Food supplies have been completely destroyed by the falling ash, and water sources have been polluted. Quote: "Anyone who's accidentally stood on an ant nest will know just how good they are at defending their home, but a new species of 'exploding ant' takes it to the next level. When confronted by an enemy insect, these tree-dwellers latch onto their foe, tear open their own body wall and release yellow toxic goo onto their rival, slowing or killing it. And while this 'explosion' doesn't exactly blow them to bits, it also spells the end for the defending ant, said Alice Laciny, a PhD student at the Natural History Museum in Vienna. She and her colleagues discovered the new species, dubbed Colobopsis explodens, in the rainforests of Borneo and their findings were published today in the journal ZooKeys."

http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/local/Crest-Elementary-Students-Evacuated-Due-to-Propane-Gas-Leak-in-East-County-480569311.html

Quote: "Students at an East County elementary school were briefly evacuated Monday morning after reports of a gas leak that could not be found, officials said."

Note: No gas leak found. Methyl mercaptan, which smells like rotten eggs, is added to natural gas and propane to give it an odor. Hydrogen sulfide smells like rotten eggs too, at least at low concentrations, except that it won't show up on natural gas detectors or propane detectors. So a rotten egg odor was smelled here, but no gas leak was found, meaning no natural gas or propane were detected. Gee whiz, what could that have been? This school is about 18 miles from the coast, so maybe an hour for a cloud of gas belched up by the ocean to reach this school from the ocean. The ocean just belched up some hydrogen sulfide and methane and sickened people at a beach ten days prior farther north from here too, in Venice, CA, mentioned in the 2018-04-13 update...

2018-04-27 - Scientists struggle to explain a worrying rise in atmospheric methane:
http://www.economist.com/news/science-and-technology/21741133-potent-greenhouse-gas-scientists-struggle-explain-worrying-rise
http://www.techbeepress.com/scientists-struggle-to-explain-a-worrying-rise-in-atmospheric-methane/
http://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/news.php?feature=6814

Quote: "There is one other possibility, advanced by Alexander Turner of the University of California, Berkeley. Rather than sources of methane, Dr Turner looks at methane sinks. Specifically, he has examined hydroxyl radicals, which are water molecules stripped of one hydrogen atom. These volatile compounds act as an atmospheric detergent, mopping up methane by reacting with it to create CO2 and water. And Dr Turner thinks there are less of them about than there used to be. Because a way to measure atmospheric hydroxyl concentrations reliably has yet to be invented, he and his colleagues arrived at their conclusion based on the use of computer models. The decrease in hydroxyls, they wrote last year in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, is 'the mathematically most likely explanation' for the rise in methane levels after 2006. Why hydroxyls would have dwindled is anyone’s guess."

Note: From the full hypothesis: "Though it is a heavier-than-air gas, hydrogen sulfide is nevertheless being blown up into the upper atmosphere sometimes, where it is reacting away both the ozone layer and hydroxyl radicals. The loss of the ozone layer will probably eventually result in lethal levels of UV radiation baking the surface of the planet. The rising UV levels are already damaging DNA and RNA and causing increases in the frequency of genetic defects such as albinism and polycephaly (two-headedness) and genetic chimeras. The loss of hydroxyl radicals means that atmospheric methane will last considerably longer in the atmosphere than it normally would, since hydroxyl radicals would normally mitigate the methane."

Dr. Turner is right, and the loss of the hydroxyl radical methane sink doesn't mean that we aren't ALSO seeing more methane flowing into the atmosphere - they are not mutually exclusive possibilities, and in fact I'm quite sure it's both. And just like I said years ago, the hydroxyl radicals in the atmosphere are being reacted away, by both hydrogen sulfide and methane. That means even if the same amount of methane enters the atmosphere, it will accumulate faster, because less of it will be reacted away, and methane is accumulating in the atmosphere FAST now. The fewer hydroxyl radicals, the more methane that will accumulate, which will react away more hydroxyl radicals, and so on and so on - another self-reinforcing feedback. So when they say that methane is 25 times worse than CO2 over a century, they're presupposing that there will be a normal amount of hydroxyl radicals in the atmosphere to react away the methane. That isn't the case, so methane is now MUCH worse than 25 times as bad as CO2.

The loss of ozone and/or hydroxyl radicals also reduces the atmosphere's UV shielding, which is why the Sun looks more and more WHITE - as opposed to yellow - with every year that passes. That's more UV hitting the surface of the planet - more 'blue' UV light is getting through the atmosphere now. If you remember the yellow Sun, you are a member of the last generation of human beings who will EVER see the Sun like that. If they weren't spraying goop into the sky all across the planet to replace our lost atmospheric UV shielding - especially over populated areas and croplands - we'd probably already all be dead. However, that isn't a solution, nor is it without significant detrimental consequences itself. Spraying 'replacement shielding' into the sky is merely a tactic to buy us a little time by postponing the inevitable. And the minute they stop spraying, the full unmitigated harshness of the extra UV will start frying food crops out of existence all around the planet and widespread starvation will ensue everywhere within a year or two, among other problems...

What isn't known is why is the geyser has erupted three times in the past six weeks, including one event on Friday in an unusual pattern that hasn't occurred since 2003. The spike in activity has puzzled scientists who closely monitor Yellowstone - the crown jewel of the national park system that rests on top of a violent supervolcano measuring 44 miles across."
